This design project for the Sarawak Buddhist Association, Kuching features an elevated pavilion as its spiritual focal point. Inspired by traditional Chinese Buddhist architecture, the octagonal roof symbolizes harmony and the Eightfold Path. Slender columns and open sides allow natural light and ventilation, creating a calm and contemplative atmosphere. The raised statue signifies spiritual elevation and serves as a visual landmark. Open terraces support ceremonies and community gatherings, while the sheltered lower level accommodates daily activities. Overall, the design expresses serenity, cultural identity, and inclusivity, reinforcing the association’s role as a place of worship, learning, and community engagement.
