The extension of St. Ann Church in Kota Padawan is conceived as community-driven architecture rooted in local culture and climate. Inspired by the Bidayuh longhouse, the design emphasizes shared spaces, permeability, and communal living. A Classroom Block and Administration Block form an L-shaped configuration, defining a central courtyard for gatherings and celebrations. The classroom wing reinterprets the ‘Ruai’ with a north-facing corridor, perforated screens, and informal seating, while the administration wing reinforces openness through screened corridors and expressive staircases. Together, they provide spaces for learning, administration, and daily engagement, strengthening the church’s role as a spiritual and social anchor.
